- Disseminated Environment Las Americas/Bolivia publication regarding the emergency need for scientific leadership in the field of climate change in Bolivia, April 2010 (See “Work Products” for details)
- Relaunched and reorganized with a focus on international climate change cooperation, developing new mission and goals, early 2010
- Secured funding for 2010, which allows for greater focus on organizational mission and goals, March through April 2010
2009
- Initiated and led vigils in front of the U.S. and Chinese embassies in La Paz, Bolivia, regarding the urgent need for leadership 100 days previous to COP 15 at Copenhagen, in August 2009
- Published major article related to the urgent need for U.S.-China leadership 100 days before Copenhagen. (See “Work Products” for details)
- Presented to audience of scientists and policymakers regarding the global climate change emergency and the need for science-based Bolivian leadership at an international meeting of Interciencia (an association of scientists for the advancement of science, including ABAC in Bolivia), Cochabamba, Bolivia, November 6, 2009 (See “Work Products” for details)
- Began climate change dialogue with several climate change-related Bolivian and international organizations and attended LIDEMA´s International Conference On Environmental Law, July 2009
- Executive Director obtained visiting researcher status as a Prescott College PhD student in residence at Georgetown Law Center, with national level decision-maker network, Washington, DC, March through May 2009,
2007 to 2008
- Five of six proposed environmental amendments to the Bolivian constitution were accepted by the MAS government, the Constituent Assembly and passed into law. Co-led Bolivian Environmental Constitutional Campaign that obtained broad legal standing and injunction from probable future harm (a remedy our organization uniquely proposed) as well as other fundamental environmental human rights. Cited by EcoAmericas Journal and USAID
- Grew to 8 full-time, long-term volunteers; 3 full-time staff; and 3 campaign contract lawyers
2006
- Co-led Climate Change Campaign 2006 with LIDEMA, including 3 national and several local TV and radio interviews, a protest in front of the US Embassy and a 400 person march in Cochabamba
- Cited in front page Los Tiempos climate change article
- First ONG to organize the showing of An Inconvenient Truth to 1,200 in Cochabamba and 30 key environmentalists in separate showings. Extensively disseminated the film to interested parties in Cochabama
- Created Bolivia’s then largest individual-membership environmental organization, with close to 500 members, prioritizing Climate Change in 2006
- Began environmental top radio show, with third best ratings in Cochabamba
- Recruited 5 full-time volunteers and brought first guest volunteers to guest house
2005
- Launched board of directors and office
- Obtained status as ONG in Bolivia and 501 (c) 3 in the US.
- Established a full-service guest house for volunteers
